Description
A really unusual genuine gas table lamp with
original cranberry shade, c.1900. The gas tap is stamped '
PROPERTY SMGAS' which is rare as most taps are plain brass.
Alongside this, there is also a very interesting mechanism to hold
the shade in place whereby the glass shade has bulges near the top
designed to push up and twist into the brown enamelled gallery.
This table lamp was probably a prototype for this gas company when
first developing gas downlighters to compete with emerging
electrical competition. A rare lamp which would work really well
as a reading or desk light.
